Latest Works Progress
Tung Chung West Section Works
Construction of Tung Chung West Station
Construction of the underground diaphragm wall at the Tung Chung West Station site continues, which will form the station’s external wall structure. Upon completion of the diaphragm wall and the relevant top slab works, the project team will commence excavation for the station within the area enclosed by the diaphragm wall.
The contractor will continue to implement environmental mitigation measures, including the provision of temporary noise barriers (shown in blue in the photo) along the side of the site adjacent to residential buildings, minimising the impact on the neighbourhood as much as possible.
Construction of Tung Chung West Section Tunnel
Temporary noise enclosure and tunnel boring machine (TBM) shafts are being constructed at the site between the two phases of Tung Chung Crescent. The TBM for the project’s West Section Tunnel has completed its acceptance test at the factory in the Mainland, and the components of the TBM will be delivered to the site in batches for assembly.
Entrances to works sites have been established on both sides of Shun Tung Road, and site formation works are in progress on the adjacent hillside for the construction of temporary slurry treatment facilities supporting the tunnel boring operations, as well as a permanent emergency access point and plant room for the tunnel. The project team and the contractor will beautify the temporary noise enclosure and the exterior of the slurry treatment facilities to better blend in with the surroundings.
Tung Chung East Section Works
Construction of Tung Chung East Station
The foundation works for Tung Chung East Station and its associated entrances have been substantially completed. Testing of the piling works has commenced with a view towards completion in Q2 this year, with the substructure works of the station expected to commence by Q3. The contractor will continue to conduct environmental monitoring and implement mitigation measures to minimise any impact on the neighbourhood.
Construction of Tung Chung East Section Noise Barriers
A section of the noise barrier along the existing Hong Kong-bound track of the Tung Chung Line has been removed in phases since September 2023, making way for the construction of a new railway section, the diversion of the Tung Chung Line, as well as the modification of the noise barrier. The removal has been completed as planned. New noise barriers will be erected along the new railway section connecting to Tung Chung East Station. The relevant foundation works are progressing and are expected to be completed in phases by Q4 this year.
Turnout Installations & Track Diversion Works
In the second half of this year, the project team will carry out track diversion works to connect the Tung Chung Line to the future Tung Chung East Station, including the installation of turnouts on the Tung Chung Line, allowing trains to traverse the new railway section and stop at the new station. The installation of overhead line masts and portals for the new section is underway since earlier this year. Certain works are carried out adjacent to or atop the operating Tung Chung Line, and the project team will conduct such works during the “Golden Two Hours” of non-traffic hours as much as possible. The project team and the contractor are carefully planning these works taking into account their complexity, the actual site conditions and the needs of railway operations.
