Preparation Commences for Tunnel Construction
Delivery Arrangements for Tunnel Boring Machine

To minimise the impact on the community, the bored tunnel method will be used to construct the Tung Chung West Section Tunnel. A huge tunnel boring machine (TBM) will be split into 16 parts and delivered in mid-October this year and stored temporarily at the Tung Chung East barging point. The project team will transport the components by a fleet of trucks over around 12 nights in the early hours (around 1.30am to 3.30am) between Q4 this year and Q2 2025. The fleet will travel through Yi Tung Road, Yu Tung Road and Shun Tung Road to the TBM shaft works site between the two phases of Tung Chung Crescent.

Due to the enormous size and weight of each of the components, which weigh up to just over a hundred tonnes, the fleet of trucks will move at a slower speed during the delivery. During the approximately 30-minute delivery time, traffic on the relevant roads will be obstructed for a short period of time, during which other vehicles behind the fleet will have to slow down or wait for a short time depending on the traffic conditions. Staff on-site will assist motorists. The bus stops of the overnight bus routes on Shun Tung Road westbound near Tung Chung Crescent and part of the footpath on Shun Tung Road westbound will also be temporarily suspended and closed when the fleet passes through.
