Hopping Into The Year Of the Rabbit with the TUE project team
The Tung Chung Line Extension (TUE) project team reached out to the community on 12 and 15 January this year to add to the festive vibes of the Chinese New Year and to share the blessings. In particular, the team collaborated with local partners in Tung Chung to send warmth and care to the residents through visits and the distribution of “lucky bags” to celebrate the Year of the Rabbit.
As the Chinese New Year approached, the TUE project team collaborated with the Tung Chung Rural Committee to organise a New Year visit. Mr Neil Smith, General Manager – Lantau (Projects) of MTR Corporation, led the team to prepare “lucky bags” before visiting Ma Wan Chung Village to deliver happiness and blessings to villagers. The team distributed “lucky bags” filled with TUE festival souvenirs and various traditional foods to the villagers, together with the team’s wholehearted New Year greetings. The Rural Committee also helped distribute “lucky bags” to the elderly and residents of the other villages in Tung Chung.
Mr Smith seized the opportunity to wish everyone a very happy, prosperous, and healthy Year of the Rabbit. He also shared that the TUE project will commence construction this year to bring a community railway to Tung Chung. The morning was a cheerful occasion to get ready for a fulfilling Chinese New Year.
To further reach out to the community, the TUE project team also visited Yat Tung Estate, next to which the new terminus of the Tung Chung Line will be built, to fully support another festive event organised by the Harmonious Community Wellness Association. The team distributed festive food, face masks and TUE souvenirs to residents of Yat Tung and Mun Tung Estates to add even more joy to the festival. The project team has been working closely with the community and took this opportunity not only to thank the community for their support but also to tell them that the project will commence soon and they looked forward to its completion.
