New Railways Go Beyond Boundaries
The railway has been instrumental in the growth and transformation of the Tung Chung community, and together they are entering a new journey. The construction of the Tung Chung Line Extension project commenced in May 2023, the first among the MTR Corporation’s multiple new railway projects.
The project is targeted to be completed in 2029, further enhancing the railway and public transportation network in North Lantau, strengthening the connectivity within and outside the district, and supporting the sustainable growth of the residential and working population of Tung Chung in the long-term.
The Tung Chung Line Extension project is mainly composed of:
• Tung Chung East Section: Constructing an approximately 1.2km new railway section and diverting the tracks between Sunny Bay and Tung Chung stations, with the new Tung Chung East Station# to be built at the Tung Chung East reclamation area
• Tung Chung West Section: Constructing an approximately 1.3km westward extension from the existing railway tunnel of Tung Chung Station and building the new Tung Chung West Station# near Yat Tung Estate

Note: Upon the commissioning of the new track section near Tung Chung East Station, the original Tung Chung Line tracks will be removed accordingly.
Station Location:
- Located in the Tung Chung East reclamation area between the existing Tung Chung and Sunny Bay stations
- An above‐ground station with an elevated concourse
Facilities:
- Platforms, concourses, shops, back of house plant rooms, and emergency exits, etc.
Station Exits/Entrances:
- Two above-ground station exits/entrances connecting to the Tung Chung East new development area through covered elevated walkways
Station Design:
- Incorporates sustainable features
- Design with high headroom to bring in more natural sunlight
- Incorporates green roof and solar panels to enhance energy efficiency

All stations under the new railway projects aim to achieve the BEAM Plus Gold certification, ranging from design, works procedures and materials usage, with a commitment to improve the quality of the station environment. The station designs for Tung Chung East Station and Tung Chung West Station have already obtained the provisional Gold certification.
